Before & After Your Wax
A little preparation and the right aftercare go a long way — here is exactly how to get the best results from your treatment.
Before Your Wax (Skin Preparation)
Prepping your skin before a wax helps achieve the smooth, flawless results from your treatment.
-
1
If it's your very first wax, make sure you have at least 3–4 weeks of growth — hair should be no shorter than a grain of rice (approx. 1/4 inch), so it's all out of the skin and long enough for the wax to grip.
-
2
Exfoliate and moisturise your skin in the lead-up to your wax, stopping 48 hours before your treatment.
-
3
Wear loose clothing to your appointment to prevent friction.
-
4
Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine before your treatment.
-
5
Avoid UV exposure and sunbeds for 48 hours before your appointment.
After Your Wax: First 24 Hours
During the first 24 hours post-wax, hair follicles are open and delicate. Follow these steps to keep skin calm and clear:
-
✕
Avoid touching the skin that's just been waxed, to prevent bacteria getting to the area.
-
✓
Wear loose clothing to prevent friction and irritation to the freshly waxed area.
-
✕
Avoid exercising, as sweating can block open hair follicles and cause bumps.
-
✕
No perfumed products or fake tan on the waxed area, as it can cause stinging and irritation.
-
✕
Avoid swimming, as pool chemicals or natural water bacteria can reach the area and cause infection.
After Your Wax: 24 to 48 Hours
As your skin continues to settle over the next 48 hours, follow these simple precautions:
-
✕
Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds, as direct UV light can lead to skin irritation and hyperpigmentation.
-
✕
No heat treatments such as saunas, jacuzzis or steam rooms — hot water and steam can irritate freshly waxed skin.
-
✕
No exfoliating yet — wait until 2 days post-wax before exfoliating, as immediate scrubbing can increase sensitivity.
